Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Nando came to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. His discography includes “Facing south” “Common grounds” for Brownstone, “Art” “Chants” “Live at the AJC” and “When Einstein dreams” for Double Time , “Duende” featuring Esperanza Spalding, for Fresh Sound, and “Reencontro” also with Spalding, independently. “Como Arboles” features the voice of Sofia Rei, and it’s a collection of original songs written to poems by the great Uruguayan poet Mario Benedetti. His last CD, “Juana de America” features songs to poems by Juana de Ibarbourou, The four Corners String Quartet and the voice of Katie Viqueira.
The duo Ragazzi-Michelin performed at the Wang Center and Kimmel ctr for the Arts among other places. As a producer, he also recorded the awarded “Amores torcidos” and “The other side” with Katie Viqueira, “Ave rara” with Teresa Ines. Nando is featured also in “Mind motions” , “South american Suite” ,”Timeline”, “Departure” and “The Ugandan Suite”, by Felipe Salles. As a sideman, he performed with John Pattitucci, Eddie Gomez, Jerry Bergonzi, Randy Brecker, Jeff Ballard, Anat Cohen, George Garzone, Antonio Sanchez, Chico Pinheiro, and MPB icons, Jair Rodrigues, Celso Adolfo, Jamelao, Lo Borges, Geraldo Azevedo, Flavio Venturini, as well as Bossa Nova great Maucha Adnet.
Nando is a very active educator, Assistant Professor for the Piano Department at Berklee College of Music, Tufts University, and Longy Music School, and having lectured in Barcelona, Montevideo, Sao Paulo, Barquisimeto,Southafrica, and around the US.
